The Iarll shows off the essential features of the Fairlie design to good advantage: twin smokeboxes, center cab, fuel and water bunkers beside the boiler, entire weight of engine and fuel carried on twin pivoting power bogies. The intent was to concentrate the engine's weight on the powered wheels, maximizing adhesion and tractive effort. That's driver Colin Dukes in charge on the footplate.
