Moments before departure, our driver contemplates the tall hills he and the fireman must shortly conquer.  The plaque on the cab side proclaims #8 to have been built at Great Western Railway's Swindon Works in 1923, and rebuilt at Brecon Mountain Railway's Pant Works in 1996.  Very shortly, the rebuilt engine would prove the craftsmanship of the Brecon Mountain shop crews out on the testing grades beyond Nantyronen.
