| Vale of Rheidol #8 pulls into the Aberystwyth engine shed for servicing between runs. #8 is by no means a small engine, but she is dwarfed by the tall standpipe and towering engine shed, and with good reason: these facilities were built by the GWR in 1938 to service standard-gauge steam engines. Note the rows of narrow-gauge coach trucks undergoing repair in the foreground: not an equalizer or a floating bolster in sight! |
