Trainspotting in Wales

The Machynlleth interlocking tower, or "signal box" in British usage.  This slab-sided structure was built by British Rail in the 1950s to replace former separate interlocking cabins at the up and down ends of the station and yard complex.  Note the railwayman's bicycle tucked under the steps.  Semaphore signals control the yard, while a class 153 DMU slumbers outside the three-track 1891 enginehouse, now a DMU maintenance shop.
