| During the 1980s, Strasburg's turn-of-the-century atmosphere was enhanced by the presence of two truly classic steam engines: Pennsylvania Railroad #1223 and #7002. Here we see the first of these time machines, PRR #1223, at Groff's. When she rolled from the PRR's Juniata shops in 1905, this high-stepping 4-4-0 was the latest word in passenger power on the classic American plan. Seventy years later, she was still an icon of grace and speed. |
