The Time Machine
| To ride a preserved steam railroad is to travel through time. Aboard the steam cars, one can turn back the clock and experience again the sights and sounds of a less hectic age. The creak of wooden floorboards, the smell of cinders, the pant of the steam locomotive-- these were the sensations of daily life in our great-grandparents' day. To recreate them for those of us too young to have known them first hand is railway preservation's privilege and high calling. |
